What is a somatic and polyvagal psychotherapy group, anyway?

video preview

Create your toolbox of soothing strategies to use when you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, depressed, or triggered.

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between physical sensations and emotional well-being. It helps clients become aware of how trauma, stress, or emotions are stored in the body and works to release this tension through techniques like breathwork, mindfulness, and movement. By addressing both the mind and body, somatic therapy can help people process trauma, regulate their nervous systems, and foster emotional healing.

Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, explains how the autonomic nervous system (ANS) influences emotional regulation and responses to stress or trauma. It identifies three states: the ventral vagal state (social engagement and calm), the sympathetic state (fight or flight), and the dorsal vagal state (shutdown or freeze). In psychotherapy, the theory helps therapists understand clients' stress responses and use interventions like mindfulness and somatic therapies to guide them toward a state of safety and connection.

In this group you will learn the skills and tools needed to create peace, calm and stillness in your body and mind.
